Biography

Karl Jacob is a Professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech. His academic career focuses on polymer physics and engineering, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in rheology and mechanics of polymeric materials. He completed his graduate work specializing in numerical analysis of vibrating three-dimensional structures. Since joining Georgia Tech in 1995 from DuPont Corporation, he has contributed significantly to the development of fiber-reinforced composite materials and modeling of fiber spinning processes while working at the DuPont Dacron Research Laboratory. Later, he was involved in molecular modeling, computational chemistry, and diffusion at the DuPont Central Research and Development Department. He is a member of several prestigious societies, including the American Academy of Mechanics and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, as well as Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
