Biography

Fred Meyer is a retired Brigadier General from the United States Army with a 37-year career that culminated as a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. He is currently a Professor of the Practice in the Structural Engineering, Mechanics, and Materials (SEMM) Group at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he teaches courses in structural engineering and mechanics while actively engaging with students. An active member of the American Concrete Institute, he serves on various committees focusing on concrete construction and high-strength concrete. Dr. Meyer is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and serves as an ABET Program Evaluator. He has a strong background in prestressed concrete, lightweight concrete, ultra-high performance concrete, and sustainable building practices in engineering education. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and has developed courses in concrete design and timber masonry design.
