Biography

Karl Persson is a Visiting Researcher in Industrial Biotechnology at Chalmers University of Technology. He completed his PhD at the University of Gothenburg, where he focused on genetics, adaptation, and the evolvability model of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. During his doctoral studies, Karl expanded his research focus to include a broader range of yeast species. Less than 5% of yeast species have been discovered, and only a handful have been tested for their potential use as cell factories. This significant gap in knowledge drives Karl's current work in bioprospecting, where he aims to find yeasts that can function as efficient cell factories to facilitate the transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy.
