Biography

Karolina Podstawa is an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University, currently serving the project TRIIAL: TRust, Independence, Impartiality Accountability, which focuses on identification practices and cooperation among judges in the European Union for the purpose of safeguarding judicial independence and accountability. This project commenced in January 2020 and concluded in June 2022. Before that, she held a part-time position as Assistant Professor at the University of Łódź in Poland and worked as a Senior Researcher at the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights Democratisation in Venice. Karolina has contributed to various projects concerning EU human rights policies, such as FRAME and ACTIONES. She also has extensive experience managing judicial cooperation projects and conducting training for judges in collaboration with international judicial organizations. Her expertise encompasses EU external relations law, fundamental rights protection, data protection, and the role of Internet Service Providers in safeguarding rights. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute and Master's degrees in Law and English Language Literature from the University of Łódź, Poland.
