Biography

Karsten Stahl is a full professor at the Institute of Machine Elements at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He conducts research in mechanical drive systems with a focus on drive components, gears, synchronizers, multi-disc clutches, rolling bearings, and electromechanical drive systems. His work emphasizes the investigations of load capacity, efficiency, and dynamics in elasto-hydrodynamic (EHD) tribocontact. His research results have been integrated into the development of calculation programs and standardization processes in mechanical engineering. After completing his studies in mechanical engineering at TUM, he obtained his doctorate in 1994. Following this, he worked at BMW as a gear development engineer and later became the head of gear development at Dingolfing. He also served as a quality manager at MINI Oxford and managed early development innovation in powertrain vehicle dynamics systems at BMW in Munich. In 2011, he took on his current role as a full professor and has since been recognized for his teaching excellence in both bachelor's and master's programs.
