Dr. Karsten Vrangbæk

Biography

Karsten Vrangbæk is a Professor in Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Health Economics Policy (CHEP). His primary research fields include health policy management with a focus on health systems analysis, economic implications of aging populations, and public-private collaboration for healthcare performance management. Over the years, he has published extensively in the area of health policy management and has led various research initiatives exploring integrated care coordination in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Notably, he has co-authored a book examining structural reforms aimed at improving healthcare coordination between Denmark and Norway. Current projects involve a comparative study of hospital performance management across Denmark, Germany, and England, along with an investigation into the implementation of the EU's Cross-Border Healthcare Directive in selected member states. Vrangbæk has also co-edited a significant volume titled 'Decentralization' as part of 'The Nordic Health Systems' series by the European Observatory on Health Systems.
