Biography

Karthi Umapathy is a Professor and Associate Chair of Student Affairs in the Department of Electrical, Computer, Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics Communication Engineering from Bharathiar University, India in 1992, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Electronics, Communication, and Electrical Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, UK in 2002. Umapathy completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2006. He has held prestigious NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship and Post Graduate Scholarship awards and was the inaugural Ryerson postdoctoral fellow recipient of the Heart & Stroke Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence research fellowship. His professional experience includes working at Philips Medical Systems as an Area Manager and Country Specialist in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), where he successfully led MRI projects in India and Japan. Umapathy joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University as an Assistant Professor in 2009, after serving as a sessional instructor from 2007 to 2009. He is a senior member of IEEE and an Affiliate Scientist at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He is also a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.
