Biography

Karyn Ball completed her undergraduate degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Pomona College in Claremont, California. She earned a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Syracuse University, followed by a PhD in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Professor Ball has been recognized for her academic achievements, receiving the DAAD Fellowship in 1995-1996 and the Charlotte W. Newcombe Dissertation Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation in 1997. Her scholarly work has been published in notable journals such as Cultural Critique, Women German Yearbook, and New Literary History. Additionally, she has contributed chapters discussing the works of influential thinkers like Sigmund Freud and Jacques Derrida. Ball has also edited special issues of Cultural Critique and worked on significant publications including 'Traumatizing Theory: Cultural Politics Affect Psychoanalysis' and 'Disciplining Holocaust.' She teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, focusing on critical reading, literary theory, and the representation of the Holocaust in different mediums, among other subjects.
