Dr. Karyn Faber

Biography

Karyn E. Faber is a Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University's School of Global Public Health, where she directs undergraduate experiential learning. With 15 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy implementation in applied public health, her areas of expertise include program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation in various settings such as community-based organizations and philanthropic entities. Dr. Faber earned her Bachelor of Arts in Women's Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, her Master of Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University, and her Doctorate in Education in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focuses on program development for supportive services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for minority elders living with chronic and serious health conditions. In addition, she explores the health behaviors of individuals through the lenses of strengths, resiliency, and coping strategies. Dr. Faber has conducted significant research funded by the Health Resource Service Administration, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Cancer Institute, addressing the psychological and social issues faced by families of chronically ill individuals. She previously served as a Research Scientist at NYU College of Dentistry and has extensive experience engaging with community organizations to address health disparities in resource-poor communities.
