Dr. Kasia Szymanska

Biography

Kasia Szymanska is an Associate Professor in the Centre of Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester, specializing in Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. Her research interests span literary translation, politics, and multilingual writing, particularly within the East European context. She is the author of the forthcoming book "Translation Multiples: Global Culture Post-Communist Democracy," which will be published by Princeton University Press. Szymanska's work has appeared in prominent journals such as PMLA, Contemporary Literature, and the Slavic and East European Journal. She has also received accolades for her contributions to the field, including the 2022 Martha Cheung Award. Prior to her current position, she was an Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin and held a Junior Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford. Szymanska has played an active role in various research initiatives, including serving on the organizing committee of the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation research centre, and has been involved in numerous funded projects examining the intersections of translation and literature. Her qualifications include a DPhil in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford and an MPhil in European Literature and Culture from the University of Cambridge, along with her BA and MA from the University of Warsaw. She is currently working on multiple projects that explore various dimensions of translation and its impact on literature and culture.
