Biography

Katarina Zvarova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Southern Denmark. She holds a Medical Doctor (MD) degree from Comenius University obtained in 1988 and a PhD from the same university received in 2007. Her research primarily focuses on the neural control organization and electrical neurochemical properties that govern urinary bladder function, particularly changes that occur with dysfunction. Dr. Zvarova’s interests also extend to innovative technologies for screening and diagnosing lower urinary tract symptoms and diabetes mellitus. She has contributed to significant research in areas such as peripheral nerve injury, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury, as well as chronic bladder inflammation and the maturation of the micturition reflex influenced by diabetes, especially in developing countries. Dr. Zvarova has held several academic positions, including Research Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont and a Postdoctoral Associate at the same institution. She has also been active in various professional associations and academic committees.
