Dr. Kate Baldwin

Biography

Kate Baldwin is an Associate Professor at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs, where she specializes in Political Science and Global Affairs. She is also a faculty fellow in Social Policy Studies. Baldwin is the author of the book 'The Paradox of Traditional Chiefs in Democratic Africa,' published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. Her research focuses on the politics of weak states and examines how non-state actors—including traditional leaders, churches, and NGOs—interact with national states to affect development and democracy. Her work aims to deepen the understanding of governance in contexts where state authority is contested or weak.
