Biography

Alongside her role at Saïd Business School, Kate Blackmon is a Tutorial Fellow in Management Studies at Merton College. She served as Senior Proctor in 2014-15, contributing to university administration, particularly in research ethics at the Bodleian Library. Her main areas of interest include operations strategy to help businesses achieve optimal performance, gender diversity in organizations, innovation, and the evolution of new business models for professional service firms. Kate is also co-author of 'Researching Business Management' (Palgrave) and is completing a book titled 'Leading Women' with OUP which addresses the gender gap in leadership. She joined Saïd Business School from the University of Bath’s School of Management in September 2003 and previously worked at London Business School and the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne. Her career began in the electric utility industry, where she worked on the design and startup of nuclear power stations. Kate holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University, a BA in Business from Queens University, and an MBA and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her expertise spans operations strategy, service operations management, research methods, and gender diversity in organizations.
