Biography

Kate Bligh has worked with playwrights and new plays throughout her career, receiving awards for her contributions to new play development. She collaborates as a dramaturge with several Montreal-based playwrights and has directed and taught notable works by Irish playwrights such as Beckett, Shaw, Synge, and McDonagh. Kate teaches various subjects at Concordia University, including acting, playwriting, and Laban movement. She has taught at prestigious institutions in London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh before relocating to Quebec twelve years ago. With an M.A. in Theatre Directing from the Drama Centre London University of Birmingham, Kate has dedicated twenty-eight years to working, studying, and creating professional theatre. Her artistic practice often explores themes of post-colonialism and multiculturalism, with a particular emphasis on Irish drama. Kate is the Artistic Director of the bilingual theatre company Temenos, where she has produced several significant works, and she continues to lead workshops and research that integrate performer training methods rooted in Grotowski and Laban's movement analysis.
