Dr. Kate Flint

Biography

Kate Flint is a Provost Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Southern California, having joined the institution in July 2011. With extensive teaching experience at prominent universities including Bristol and Oxford, as well as Rutgers, her academic background is rich and diverse. She has held the position of Chair of the Department of Art History twice, from January 2012 to August 2015 and again from August 2018 to August 2021. Her research interests cover a broad scope of the 19th and early 20th centuries, focusing on interdisciplinary studies across transatlantic frameworks. Flint's work engages with Victorian cultural, visual, and literary history, exploring various themes such as Victorian painting, environmental art practices, and text/image relationships. She also examines historical photography and theories related to reading, viewing, affect, and subjectivity, all within their historical contexts.
