Biography

Kate Gillespie, DNP, RN, CPH, FAAN, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1985, Kate has extensive experience in governmental public health and clinical nursing practice, particularly in maternal and child health. Her research interests focus on monitoring the effectiveness of public health programs that support women during the perinatal period and enhance public health nursing practice. She has participated in NIH-funded studies aimed at optimizing Medicaid Prenatal Care Coordination programs in Wisconsin. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Kate is actively involved in several professional organizations, including serving on the Wisconsin Maternal Mortality Review Committee and co-chairing the Wisconsin Nurses Association Preparedness Task Force. She has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and is committed to the professional development and education of nurses in the public health field. Kate’s scholarship in clinical practice and community outreach emphasizes the integration of public health principles across nursing education and practice settings.
