Biography

Kate qualified as a registered nurse in 1993 and worked as a staff nurse and sister in Intensive Care before moving into higher education in 2004. Prior to joining King's College London, she worked at various universities with a primary focus on the development of leadership in adult critical care nursing and post-registration education. Her teaching areas have included evidence-based practice, research methods, and care of the acutely ill adult, across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Kate is a member of the Critical Care Nurse Education Review Forum (CCNERF) and the educational sub-group of the Critical Care National Network Nurse Leads forum (CC3N). As part of the CCNERF working group, she has authored several national competency documents. Her research interests focus on ICU delirium, patient experience in critical care, recovery rehabilitation after critical illness, cognitive sequelae of critical illness, and the mind-body dualism in healthcare.
