Biography

Kate engages in comparative political sociology focusing on collective memories that intersect with political economy, affecting national imaginaries and notions of belonging. Her research addresses the processes through which national identities are imagined and reimagined, implicating structures of gender, sexuality, race, and class. A trained political scientist, Kate’s work integrates sociology, anthropology, critical theory, and literary theory, with a particular interest in the writing process, as well as politically engaged writing. She examines the complexities of capitalism, nationalism, and war, drawing from her youth in communist Poland and subsequent experience in Canada’s public service. Kate holds a BA with Honours from Metropolitan University, an MA from McGill University, and a PhD from the University of Toronto.
