Dr. Kate Longworth

Biography

Kate Longworth is a Departmental Lecturer in Lifelong Learning at the University of Oxford, focusing on Creative Writing and Drama. Her research interests are primarily in modern literary intellectual history, with a specific emphasis on English theatre and drama. Kate is currently developing a forthcoming research monograph with Oxford University Press that examines the story of modern English poetic drama within the broader history of ideas. This work consolidates the complex and often unacknowledged relationship between the experiments of verse drama and the philosophical and political trends of British Hegelianism and idealism. Moreover, she explores how these ideas relate to community spirituality and social educational policy. Kate has also published on the history of modern print culture, evidenced by her history of fostering adoption in England, seen through the lens of her own lived experience. Her publications include contributions to Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press, showcasing her extensive work in the field of literary studies and cultural history.
