Dr. Kate Nation

Biography

Kate Nation is a Professor of Experimental Psychology and a Fellow at St John's College, University of Oxford. She began her academic journey with a DPhil research at the University of York from 1991 to 1994, focusing on factors influencing spelling development. After her DPhil, she worked as a Research Fellow at York for five years and was appointed as a Lecturer in Psychology in 1999. In 2002, she moved to Oxford, where she was promoted to Professor of Experimental Psychology in 2006. Her research is primarily concentrated on language processing, with a special emphasis on reading development in children. She investigates how children learn to read, comprehend text, and the key mechanisms that facilitate the transition from novice to expert in reading. Moreover, her work explores the skilled behaviors that emerge from language learning experiences during childhood and adolescence. She directs the ReadOxford Language and Cognitive Development Research Group and serves as the Associate Head of Personnel.
