Biography

Kate Kennedy Steiner combines interests in music, ritual practice, narrative history, and communal identity research with a focus on medieval music. She obtained her Master of Arts in Liturgical Studies from Yale Divinity School and her Ph.D. from Princeton University, where her dissertation explored music liturgy in medieval St Andrews, providing new insights into an important collection of medieval polyphony. Her published work includes articles on liturgical music and edited volumes discussing scriptural songs. As an Associate Professor at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo, she teaches courses on music history, emphasizing music-making within social contexts. In addition to directing the Church Music Worship Program, Steiner also leads the Chapel Choir and the Worship Apprenticeship Program.
