Biography

Katharina Belt is a Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Plant Energy Biology at the University of Western Australia (UWA). She completed her Bachelor and Master's degrees at Leibniz University of Hanover, focusing on plant mitochondrial metabolism and the composition of the electron transport chain. She undertook her PhD studies at UWA, concentrating on the plant mitochondrial stress response and stress signaling. After obtaining her PhD in 2018, she joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as a postdoctoral fellow in the Molecular Plant Pathology Crop Genomics Laboratory. Her work involved developing microbe-assisted crop protection technologies, specifically biofungicides. In late 2021, she returned to UWA as a Research Scientist in the School of Molecular Sciences, where her research now focuses on protein synthesis in wheat and sustainable agricultural practices. Her expertise aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to efforts to end poverty and protect the planet through her research in molecular and cellular biology, plant metabolism, and plant biochemistry.
