Biography

Katharina Lobinger is an Associate Professor in Online Communication at the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication at Università della Svizzera italiana. Her main research interests include networked photography, online communication, digital visual culture, ethics in the digital age, creative visual research methods, and open data practices. With a Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Vienna, her dissertation titled 'Visual Communication Research' received the Doctoral Dissertation Award in Media, Culture, and Communication. She has held positions as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Vienna and as a Post-doctoral Researcher at the University of Bremen's Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research. Additionally, she has served as an Associated Junior Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Delmenhorst. Active in various professional associations, she has been the president of the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Research and has contributed to the editorial board of SComS - Studies in Communication Sciences. Currently, she is involved in a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation focusing on the role of visual communication in conflict transformation.
