Biography

Katharina D. Martin is a philosopher and artist based in Rotterdam and currently a visiting fellow at the Erasmus School of Philosophy. Her research encompasses the philosophy of nature, philosophy of technology, continental philosophy, and aesthetics, specifically focusing on concepts of expression, form, milieu, and body. Martin has delivered numerous talks and authored several works, including co-editing the anthology 'The Problem of the Body: Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault' and publishing her monograph 'The Technology of the Problem of Expression' in 2023. With a multidisciplinary background in social pedagogy, media art, and fine arts, Martin has cultivated a keen interest in the aesthetics of philosophy. She has been an associated member of the Cluster of Excellence 'Image Knowledge Gestaltung' at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 2014 to 2019, and has taught image theory at the AKI in Enschede and ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem. Martin was awarded her doctorate in philosophy with the distinction of magna cum laude in 2023 from the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Additionally, she is an internationally exhibited artist with works shown in notable venues including the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius and the MACRO in Rome. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Gallery Joey Ramone in Rotterdam and a presentation of her video 'Stick' at the Bienalsur Biennial in Buenos Aires.
