Biography

Katharine Low is a performance-based practitioner-researcher and Senior Lecturer in Performance Medical Humanities Education at King’s College London. She contributes to curriculum development and delivers teaching focused on arts-based methodologies, informed by a broader view of Medical Humanities. With 20 years of experience in applied theatre and performance practice in health, she works in fields such as sexual health, gender equity, and vulnerability, both in the UK and internationally. Her research focuses on emancipatory action and participatory research methodologies, exploring challenging perceptions of vulnerability, women's health, gender equity, and the impact of radical kindness performance practices. Her research interests also encompass performance-based approaches to communication skills development, representations of gender equity in the theatre industry, and the challenges of motherhood in academic life. Previously, she held positions at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and Goldsmiths College, and has published several books on applied theatre and health communication.
