Biography

Katherine Berg graduated with a BScPT degree from McGill University and practiced clinically for 12 years before completing an MSc degree in Rehabilitation Science and a PhD degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University. Her doctoral research focused on the development and validation of a functional measure of balance, known as the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), which is widely used in clinical practice and research and has been translated into multiple languages. Dr. Berg has post-doctoral experience at the Centre for Gerontology and Health Care Research at Brown University. She joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor (Research) and later moved back to McGill University, where she served as an Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Program. In 2004, Dr. Berg became Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto and served for 10 years. She also held the position of Chair of the Graduate Department of Rehabilitation Science, which is now renamed as the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector. Dr. Berg has had an active research career focused on measuring outcomes to improve patient care and health information.
