Dr. Katherine Cashell

Biography

Katherine Cashell is a Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering at University College London (UCL). She is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (FIStructE) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE). Prior to joining UCL in November 2022, she served as a Reader in Structural Engineering at Brunel University London from 2012 to 2022, and as a Senior Structural Engineer at the Steel Construction Institute between 2010 and 2012. Her academic journey began with a PhD from Imperial College London in 2009, where she researched the ultimate behaviour of composite floor slabs under fire conditions. Professor Cashell has held various advisory positions in both academia and the industry, including being a full board member of the Joint Board Moderators (JBM) and a member of EPSRC. She also serves as an External Examiner for the MSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Bath and has previously held external examiner roles at the University of Edinburgh and Munster Technological University. Additionally, she is actively involved in the Institution of Structural Engineers, where she has served in various roles, including a term member of the Council and past Chair of the Great Britain region of Engineers Ireland.
