Katherine Chimney is a genetic counsellor who graduated from the MSc Genetic Counselling Program at the University of Manitoba in 2022. She practices in a variety of specialties including metabolics, neurogenetics, and general genetics. After graduation, Katherine worked as a research coordinator for clinical trials and registries related to lysosomal storage disorders, such as Gaucher disease and Fabry disease, and served as Project Manager for the Canadian Prairie Metabolic Network and Mainstreaming Genomics Manitoba—research projects funded by Genome Canada. In her current position as a clinical genetic counsellor, she works in general genetics and newborn screening. Katherine is also a faculty member of the University of Manitoba's MSc in Genetic Counselling Program, where she participates in clinical supervision and is interested in future involvement with Genetic Counselling Program student research. As a first-generation student, Katherine is passionate about increasing access to genetic counselling programs for students from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to thrive in the field of genetic counselling. In 2025, she was nominated from her graduating class for the Outstanding Field Supervisor Award in recognition of her clinical supervision contributions.
