Biography

Katherine H Downie is a Southeast Michigan-based artist and Painting Lecturer at the University of Michigan. With a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Kendall College of Art & Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Eastern Michigan University, she has taught art to students of various ages in multiple settings, including K-8 art teacher at a charter school, instructor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Continuing Education classes for ages 3-93. Downie is also an Artist-in-Residence on Mackinac Island and serves as the Restaurant Review Illustrator for the Ann Arbor Observer. A committed advocate for the arts, she volunteers as Chair of the City of Saline Arts & Culture Committee and heads the Meredith Bixby Marionette Trust. Her mixed-media paintings have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Michigan and are included in private and corporate collections. Downie has received various awards recognizing her artistic and academic achievements, demonstrating her dedication to supporting artists of all ages.
