Dr. Katherine Occhiuto

Biography

Katherine Occhiuto is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work, Carleton University. She holds a PhD and MSW from Carleton University and a BA in Political Science and Communication Studies from York University. Her research interests focus on critical clinical community-based practice, mental health, poverty, the working poor, simulation-based education research, and social services provision. Occhiuto has published extensively on topics related to social work education and the integration of simulation into clinical practice. She has received recognition for her innovative teaching methods, especially in the adaptation of online simulations during her work with students in social work education. Her commitment to improving mental health outcomes through practical education emphasizes the importance of lived experiences in social work practice.
