Biography

Katy Peters, MD, PhD, FAAN, is a professor of neurology and neurosurgery at the Duke University Department of Neurology. Her academic medical career began at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she earned her MD and PhD in Cancer Biology. Following her neurology residency at Johns Hopkins University, Peters completed a fellowship in cognitive neurosciences and subsequently joined the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center (PRTBTC) as a neuro-oncology fellow in 2009. She is dedicated to patient care and is actively involved in research focusing on supportive care for brain cancer patients, cognitive dysfunction, and physical activity. Additionally, Peters directs clinical trials aimed at improving the quality of life and cognitive function in patients with primary brain tumors. In 2019, she became the Director of Supportive Care at the PRTBTC, furthering her commitment to enhancing patient care. Her teaching activities span medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers, and she serves as the Program Director for the neuro-oncology fellowship at PRTBRC. Peters is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neuro-oncology.
