Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Katherine Robinson. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Katherine's research focuses on understanding the basic mechanisms driving neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Machado Joseph Disease (MJD). She is particularly interested in how calpain proteases contribute to the formation of pathological protein aggregates, with the aim of identifying novel drug treatments to slow or halt the neurodegenerative process. Her research interests include understanding the role of cerebellar circuit dysfunction in the pathogenesis of Machado Joseph Disease and Spinocerebellar Ataxia-3, as well as the role of glutamate-induced excitotoxicity and proteolytic cleavage in neurodegeneration. Katherine investigates overlapping pathogenic mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases that differ in their underlying genetic causes and is committed to identifying novel candidates for treating these debilitating conditions.
