Biography

Katherine E. Southwood is a full Professor specializing in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Oxford. Her educational journey began in comprehensive schools in North West London, followed by evening classes at Birkbeck, London, focusing on Hebrew. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Theology from Durham University and completed her Masters in Classical Hebrew and her DPhil at the University of Oxford. Prior to securing a permanent position at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, she became a Kennicott Fellow at Oxford. She began her current professorship in 2013 and has teaching and examining privileges for both undergraduate and graduate students. Southwood is also a passionate open water swimmer. Her teaching is considered the heart of her academic work, and she is always open to discussing graduate supervision with anyone whose interests align with hers in the field of Hebrew Bible studies.
