Biography

Katherine Starzyk is a Professor in Social Personality Psychology at the University of Manitoba, where she focuses on understanding the dynamics of intergroup relations, reconciliation, and social justice. With a background shaped by her identity as a Polish Canadian woman from a working-class family, she emphasizes the importance of perspective in addressing historical and contemporary human rights issues, particularly concerning Indigenous peoples in Canada. Starzyk employs a multidisciplinary approach to her research, integrating diverse methodologies such as interviews, public polling, surveys, and both qualitative and quantitative analyses. She holds a PhD in Social-Personality Psychology from Queen's University, reflecting her deep commitment to the field. Starzyk is a founding member of the Centre for Human Rights Research, where she collaborates with students and co-investigators on initiatives like the Canadian Reconciliation Barometer. Through her work, she aims to contribute both scholarly and applied insights to the discourse on social justice and collective action.
