Dr. Katherine Starzyk

Biography

Katherine Starzyk is a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on applied social psychology, particularly regarding human rights issues, social change, and intergroup relations. She leads several research projects, leveraging both graduate and undergraduate students in her initiatives. Among her most significant projects is the Canadian Reconciliation Barometer, which aims to promote understanding and action towards reconciliation in Canada. Starzyk's research interests encompass psychometrics, personality, polling, anti-racism interventions, and the prediction of support for reparations. Her work is rooted in collaboration with Indigenous communities and acknowledges the historical context and current relationship with Indigenous groups in Canada. Throughout her career, she has received funding from various sources, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and Canadian Heritage, to support her research endeavors. Starzyk is committed to creating an inclusive environment that fosters Indigenous excellence and contributes to meaningful social change through research and collaboration.
