Biography

Katherine (Kathy) Yelick is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been since 1991. She holds a joint research appointment at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where she currently serves as Associate Laboratory Director for Computing Sciences. Her research focuses on parallel programming languages, automatic performance tuning, performance analysis, parallel algorithms, and optimizing compilers. Yelick leads the Berkeley Unified Parallel C (UPC) project and co-leads the Berkeley Benchmarking Optimization (Bebop) group. She oversees the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) and the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) within the Computational Research Division (CRD). Yelick's background includes a strong emphasis on applied mathematics, computer science, and data science in computational science. She was a leader of the Future Technologies Group from 2005 to 2007 and served as NERSC Director from 2008 to 2012.
