Biography

Kathleen Brandenburg is a prominent figure in the field of human-centered design, prioritizing the needs of people in every solution. In 2000, she co-founded IA Collaborative, a global design innovation consultancy that applies design methodologies across a broad spectrum of industries. Her work includes developing new systems that enhance the safety and effectiveness of surgical teams, and she has contributed to shaping the organizational purpose of India’s largest conglomerates. Kathleen has also been instrumental in combating the Ebola epidemic through innovative solutions that leverage sustainable resources on the ground. Recognized as a Master of Design and one of the 50 Influential Designers in America by Fast Company, she was nominated as Visionary of the Year by the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt. As a speaker, she has shared her insights on the value of design at renowned events, including Mayo Clinic’s Transform Conference and the IDSA International Design Conference. Kathleen serves as a Trustee at Illinois Tech, Board Member of the Institute of Design, and lectures at prestigious universities, including Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business and Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. As a Harvard Advanced Leadership Fellow, she advocates for the significant role that design plays in addressing complex global challenges.
