Biography

Dr. Kathleen Gartke is a Senior Medical Officer at the Ottawa Hospital and an orthopaedic surgeon with over 32 years of experience, having obtained her fellowship in 1984. She specialized in foot and ankle problems in the early 1990s. Her career began at Grace Hospital, after which she worked on the staff at Ottawa Hospital (The Ottawa Hospital) for 22 years until its amalgamation. In 2008, she took an academic position at the University of Ottawa and became an Assistant Professor of Surgery in 2013. Her current research interests focus on quality improvement, patient experience, physician leadership, and physician wellness. Dr. Gartke chairs the Medical Affairs Advisory Committee and co-chairs the Regional Clinical Operations Committee. She serves as an executive sponsor for hospital committees within her areas of interest and participates in advisory committees at the University. In 2016, Dr. Gartke retired from clinical practice to dedicate her time to hospital administration.
