Dr. Kathleen Hall

Biography

Kathleen Hall is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania. She has an academic background with a B.A. in Social Science from California State University Fresno, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1979. She then obtained both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1985 and 1993, respectively. Her research interests span four major areas: immigration, citizenship, racial and class inequality, and national incorporation in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Hall also explores the politics of knowledge in public sector policy governance, with a specific focus on risk management, human rights, and anti-terrorism laws in the UK. She actively engages in academic discourse surrounding the concept of global citizenship and related efforts to internationalize K-16 education in the U.S. and the U.K. Hall has contributed to the field through her publications and has taught several courses, including Anthropology & Education, Culture/Power/Identities, and Craft Ethnography.
