Biography

Kathleen Hipke, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Her primary areas of expertise include perinatal, infant, and early childhood mental health. Dr. Hipke is particularly interested in program development and training opportunities that expand the workforce and provide high-quality therapeutic support for children and families in the earliest years of life. She currently serves as the Director of the UW-Madison Prevention Research Center’s Core Research Project, which focuses on addressing postpartum depression in Wisconsin home visiting programs. Additionally, she provides state-wide training in Trauma-Informed Child Parent Psychotherapy (TI-CPP) for licensed mental health clinicians aiming to implement empirically supported interventions for children aged 0-5 who have experienced trauma. Dr. Hipke has a role in teaching and providing mentorship to multi-disciplinary professionals in Wisconsin through the department’s Infant, Early Childhood Family Capstone Certificate Program. She joined the Department of Psychiatry full-time in 2021, contributing to the training and clinical development of child psychology trainees with an emphasis on infant and early childhood mental health. Dr. Hipke earned her doctoral degree from Arizona State University and completed her psychology internship at the Children’s Hospital of Chicago, in the Department of Psychiatry at Northwestern University. She carries the Infant Mental Health Endorsement at the Mentor Level.
