Dr. Kathleen Kemp

Biography

Kathleen Kemp is an Associate Professor at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School, specializing in clinical psychology. She works primarily with children, adolescents, and families within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Rhode Island Hospital and the Bradley/Hasbro Children’s Research Center. Kemp has a strong focus on improving mental health support for youth involved with the legal system, particularly through her role at the Rhode Island Family Court Mental Health Clinic. Her research interests include suicide prevention and substance misuse interventions tailored for at-risk youth. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Drexel University, with a concentration in forensic psychology. Following her studies, she completed her internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and engaged in a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia’s Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy. Kemps' work is notable for its impact on systems-level changes in mental health services for youth, and she serves as a principal investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects. She is dedicated to developing evidence-based treatment implementation strategies for vulnerable populations and continues to contribute to both academic literature and public policy discussions. Kemp is also involved in training future clinicians and researchers, ensuring that best practices in adolescent mental healthcare are upheld and disseminated widely.
