Biography

Kathleen Riach is a Professor of Organisation Studies at the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School, UK. Over the past 20 years, her research has explored the lived, bodily experiences of inequality in the workplace across the life course, focusing on occupational health, well-being, and the socioeconomic and cultural phenomena that affect underrepresented groups. Kathleen’s pioneering research on menopause at work is globally recognized; in 2019, she launched the Menopause in the Workplace Online (MIPO), the world’s first online free resource designed to help managers support menopause in the workplace, accessed by 18,000 individuals across 50 countries. Her work has influenced public and private sectors, contributing to national employee guidelines in NHS Scotland and shaping international standards as she became chair of the forthcoming ISO Standard on Menopause, Menstruation, and Menstrual Health at the Workplace. Kathleen is also a UK delegate to the G20 engagement group on gender equality, the W20. In 2024, she was named the AACSB’s Influential Leader and won the Herald Higher Education National Imaginative Educator award. Professor Riach is a member of her school's Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour research cluster, specializing in Occupational Health and Safety, Equality, and the Health and Well-being of the working life course, as well as consultancy roles and editorial board memberships.
