Dr. Kathrin Thiele

Biography

Kathrin Thiele is a Professor at Utrecht University, where she holds the Chair in Gender, Culture & Ecologies within the Department of Media and Culture Studies. She has a transdisciplinary background in Gender Studies, Sociology, Critical Theory, and Literary Studies. Her research addresses critical inquiries in the humanities and social sciences, focusing on the ethics and politics of queer feminist, decolonial, and critical posthumanist perspectives. Thiele's work actively engages with cultural debates surrounding societal differences and systemic inequalities, paying particular attention to the frictions inherent in processes of inclusion and exclusion within asymmetrical power relations. She has initiated several projects, including the Relational Matters Archive, which fosters online conversations and contributes to a growing archive aimed at enriching theorization in broader academic contexts. Thiele is also a co-founder of the Terra Critica network, which focuses on the critical examination of current global ecological conditions. Through her various roles, she seeks to highlight the importance of critical humanities in producing meaningful analyses of present-day challenges in an ecologically entangled world.
