Biography

Kathryn Bishop combines teaching at Oxford’s Saïd Business School with practical experience in leadership roles across private, public, and voluntary sectors. She was appointed Chairman of the Welsh Revenue Authority in April 2017, a new public body established to collect taxes in Wales, a role significant in the evolution of financial governance in the region. Bishop served as a Civil Service Commissioner from 2012 to 2017, where she was one of 11 commissioners responsible for regulating appointments to the civil service of the UK. In addition, she has held numerous non-executive directorships, including with the UK Border Agency under the Home Office, and the UK Intellectual Property Office, advocating for efficient governance. In June 2021, she was awarded a CBE for her services to diversity in public administration and currently serves as Chairman of the Dean Close Foundation, a group of schools and nurseries. With a dedication to mentorship, she has spent a decade helping individuals from various backgrounds forge successful careers and has encapsulated her insights in her book, 'Make Your Own Map.' Her upcoming work focuses on the significance of conversations in the boardroom, titled 'Board Talk: 18 Crucial Conversations That Count in the Boardroom,' set for release in 2023. Kathryn holds a BA (Hons) Summa Cum Laude from Wellesley College, USA, and an MPhil from Oxford.
