Biography

Kathryn Campbell's research focuses on miscarriages of justice, particularly examining the limits of expert testimony in criminal trials, and conducting a comparative study on the impact of preventive detention strategies on wrongful convictions. She investigates the schemes for exoneration and compensation for the wrongly convicted and studies the admissibility of problematic evidence. As a Full Professor, Kathryn is also the director of Innocence Ottawa, a pro bono student-run project that assists the wrongly convicted in applying for conviction reviews with the Minister of Justice. Her research interests extend to Indigenous justice, youth justice, and animal law. Kathryn has served as a visiting scholar at the Institute of Criminology, Cambridge University during her sabbatical in 2022. She has published extensively on the topics of wrongful convictions and justice reform in Canada.
