Biography

Kathryn Crouch is a Lecturer in Bioinformatics at the University of Glasgow. She completed her PhD in Immunology at the Institute of Animal Health in 2006 and subsequently worked in the pharmaceutical industry for four years, including a project with Pfizer focusing on sequencing immune tissues of novel elasmobranch species (sharks). Her experience in the industry motivated her to pursue bioinformatics, leading her to undertake an MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Edinburgh, where she graduated with distinction. She took on roles as a Bioinformatician and Software Developer at the University of Glasgow, where she provided bioinformatics services to the Wellcome Centre Integrative Parasitology (WCIP) and explored computational methods to contribute to topics of significance in the parasitology community, such as drug resistance and genome stability. In her role as software developer for VEuPathDB, she developed strong software skills while driving her interest in providing public resources for the research community. Since 2022, she has been teaching bioinformatics at both undergraduate and MSc levels at the University of Glasgow and remains actively involved in VEuPathDB. Her research interests are centered around creating resources that ensure equitable access to genomic data, focusing on protozoan parasites and related organisms.
