Biography

Kathryn Vanya Ewart is a University Teaching Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University. She has a PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland, having previously earned a BSc (Honours) from Université de Moncton. Her research focuses on antifreeze proteins, particularly how they help marine species adapt to cold environments. Ewart's work includes investigating the effects of ice binding on antifreeze proteins from winter flounder, exploring the hypothermic protective properties of these proteins in cellular models, and evaluating the rapid amyloid formation process. She collaborates closely with the Protein Assembly Research Team and holds academic positions as an Adjunct and Instructor member of her department since 1998. Through her research, Ewart aims to shed light on universal biological processes critical for human health.
