Biography

Kathryn Medill is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of Washington. She received her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Northwest Semitics from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. Medill specializes in statistical approaches to Semitic linguistics and the socio-historical development of scribal norms in ancient Judah and Levantine communities. Her current research focuses on coding motion in Biblical Hebrew and measuring the fluidity of Biblical Hebrew texts. Medill is committed to promoting the study of the ancient Near East in middle and high schools. She teaches various courses, including Biblical Hebrew and Introduction to the Old Testament, as well as courses related to Biblical and ancient Near Eastern literatures.
