Dr. Kathryn Ricketts

Biography

Kathryn Ricketts is a Professor in Arts Education at the University of Regina, specializing in Dance Education. Her research interests include the exploration of spectatorship, the culturally-inscripted body, fluid borders, and hybrid identities, with a focus on inclusive education. Ricketts critiques text-centered learning strategies that silence the body and favor the examination of self through autobiographical collective storytelling. She utilizes methods like Embodied Poetic Narrative to enable students to engage in dynamic pedagogical environments, activating personal agency and encouraging transformative learning experiences. Ricketts has developed the Listening Lab, a research initiative that integrates experimental art practices with inclusive pedagogy, bringing together artists, teachers, and community workers.
