Biography

Kathryn Schneider researches prevention, detection, and treatment of sport-related concussions. She identified a large treatment effect using multimodal physiotherapy and vestibular rehabilitation for athletes with persistent symptoms of concussion. A clinical specialist in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists, her expertise lies in vestibular rehabilitation. Her clinical practice focuses on treating recreational, elite, and professional athletes experiencing ongoing symptoms of sport-related concussions. She has developed and instructed continuing education courses for physiotherapists and healthcare professionals on vestibular rehabilitation and cervical spine assessment/treatment related to sport-related concussions. Avenue Magazine named her one of the “Top 40 Under 40” in 2012, and she received the Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA) Champion Vestibular Medicine Award in 2015. Kathryn's research led to the identification of changes in neck function measures related to concussions, earning her the 2018 Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT) Excellence in Research Award. She has co-chaired the Scientific Committee of the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport and served as a co-lead author of the resulting Amsterdam Consensus Statement. As an invited speaker at various international conferences and Olympic medical meetings, she has worked with local, provincial, and national sports organizations and healthcare teams to develop and implement evidence-based concussion protocols.
